The story behind the art

In Daniel chapter 3, King Nebuchadnezzar orders three young Judeans — Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego — thrown into a furnace heated seven times hotter than usual for refusing to bow to a golden image. Looking into the fire, the king says he sees four men walking unbound and unharmed, "and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God" (Daniel 3:25). This canvas paints that moment: the three, and the one who was already in there with them.
