How thick is an AmourPrint canvas?
AmourPrint canvases are 1.25 inches deep (32mm) on the standard gallery-wrap depth, stretched over a kiln-dried solid-wood pine stretcher bar frame. This is the same depth professional galleries use and is the industry standard for framed-frameless modern wall art.
Canvas depth matters more than most buyers realize. It controls three things: whether the artwork reads as serious wall art or as a poster, whether the wrap-around image on the edges looks gallery-quality, and whether the piece feels substantial when you take it out of the box. Thin canvases (0.75 inches or less) cost less to ship but look flimsy on the wall and don't take a floater frame well. Deep canvases (1.5 inches and above) are dramatic but oversized for most home applications. The 1.25-inch depth is where decorators have landed as the universal default โ and it's what we ship on every AmourPrint piece.
Why 1.25 inches is the right depth
Three reasons it's the standard. First, the side-wrap reads as part of the artwork at this depth โ viewed from a 45-degree angle, you see continuous image on the edges, not a flat poster taped to a frame. Second, 1.25 inches casts a clean 1/4-inch shadow on the wall when properly hung, which is what makes a canvas read as floating rather than glued on. Third, it accepts a floater frame cleanly if you want to add one later โ floater frames are designed around the 1.25-inch standard depth, and a thinner canvas won't sit right in one.
For reference: 1.25 inches is exactly the depth of an iPhone with a slim case. Hold one up to the wall and that's what the canvas will project from your living-room wall.
What's inside the depth: the stretcher bars
The frame underneath the canvas is kiln-dried solid pine, milled to 1.25 inches deep and 1.5 inches wide on the bar faces. Kiln-drying is the part most cheap canvases skip โ untreated wood expands and contracts with humidity, which is what causes canvas to sag, warp, or develop a crease in the corner six months after hanging. Kiln-dried pine is dimensionally stable across the temperature and humidity range of a normal home, which is why our 5-year color and structural guarantee covers warping, not just fade.
The canvas itself is 380gsm poly-cotton blend stretched over the bars with stainless staples on the back โ not visible from the front, not visible from the sides. Corners are hand-folded (mitered hospital-corner fold) rather than stapled flat, which is what keeps the wrap continuous on all four sides.
How it ships and what to expect when you unbox it
Canvases ship flat-packed in a corrugated double-wall box sized to the canvas, with corner-protector foam blocks and a poly-bag interior wrap to prevent abrasion in transit. The piece arrives ready-to-hang โ hanging hardware (D-rings + nylon-coated wire) is already mounted on the back, so you don't need to flip the canvas, drill anything, or buy hardware. We include a single nail and a small bubble level in the box for the 16x20 through 24x36 sizes.
For 30x40 and larger, the canvas ships with two D-rings and a wider-gauge wire โ we recommend two nails or screws for these sizes, spaced to match the D-ring positions on the back. Instructions are printed on the unboxing card.
